Tall Fescue Sod the Grass for San Jose

Posted by George Bravos on

When we have the question of what is the best lawn for San Jose, our reply this varies upon condition if direct sun than your sod choice for all year green is a tall fescue or a tall fescue mixture. If the area is in direct sun or heavy sun, tall fescue sod types works well with deep root growth, making drought tolerance much more effective vs traditional dwarf fescue. If the area is heavily shaded I recommend shade blend which is also tall fescue but instead of using bluegrass we replace the ten percent mixture with fine fescue to aid in shade tolerance.

Tall fescue is a popular grass lawn for San Jose due to how drought tolerant and heat-resistant this sod can be. There are multiple blends to choose from in our selection depending on conditions price and soil bases. Please feel free to stop by our selection page to view options.

Our most drought tolerant sods types we take time to grow. our sod takes time to get to the best quality before cutting for harvest. All sod orders are cut to ship direct from the sod farm and never held in stock at a sod depot store, giving your lawn the best quality sod available.

  • When it comes to healthy and beautiful lawns, the Delta Tall 9010 is one of the ideal grasses for the job. This product is surprisingly affordable and performs admirably in my yard. Through this, I was able to save a significant amount of money on landscaping.

  • Hello Jordan! There are many reasons why these products are part of our top Bay Area favorites in California. First and foremost, Bolero Plus Bluegrass and Delta Tall 9010 are very drought-resistant, which is vital in the hot and dry climates of the Bay Area, such as San Jose, San Francisco, Palo Alto, and Oakland. It is also moderately tolerant of shade, which makes it ideal for areas that have shrubs surrounding them. It also has a durable ability to withstand foot traffic and moderate traffic areas around your home.

  • Happy to hear the tall fescue working out better than the older lawn Fred. San Jose has been ordering more tall fescue and less bermuda like we spoke about, and I can see why.

  • I plan to buy Bolero Plus Dwarf Fescue, but I’m unsure whether it will work here in San Jose. What is your advice about it? Should I stick with Delta Tall 9010 instead?
