How does sod delivery work?

Posted by George Bravos on

Sod delivery refers to the process of having sod (also known as turf or grass) delivered to your home or business for installation. Here's how the process typically works:

Choose the Sod Type That's Right for You

Choosing the sod type that will best suit your conditions is probably the most important step in having your lawn delivered. At Sod and Seed, inc. we pride ourselves in matching you with the sod type that will best suit your conditions.

Place Sod Order

You place an order with us online or over the phone. When placing your order, you will need to specify the type of sod you want, as well as the quantity you need and a preferred delivery date. Generally, sod deliveries are two to three days out during weekdays and three to four days out on weekends.

Confirm Delivery Details

Sod and Seed, Inc. will confirm all order details via text message. Please ensure we have the correct sod type, square footage, shipping address and requested delivery date.

Harvesting Your Sod

Sod and Seed, Inc. provides the highest quality sod, fresh from the farm, never held in stock. Your sod will be cut to your specifications and loaded onto the truck for delivery along with other orders.

Sod Delivery

Your sod order is scheduled on a delivery truck along with other orders. Deliveries are scheduled using a specialized systems that takes into account legal and safety guidelines (such as weight limits), the shipping address of all orders, and ensuring every order is in the truck for the least amount of time possible for guaranteed freshness. The sod is delivered to your location, typically on a pallet or in large rolls and moved from the truck to your site with a forklift.

NOTE: All deliveries are curb-side. Forklifts can only cross into your property line with a signed waiver which you can submit to us in a variety of ways and must be done at least two days before your delivery. We also recommend someone be home during the delivery, waivers can be signed on site and our delivery staff will work with you to deliver the sod in the preferred and safest spot.

Sod Installation

Begin the installation process! This typically involves preparing the area beforehand. This involves preparing the soil, laying the sod, and watering it to help it establish itself. Install sod the same day it is delivered. Do not cover and mist to ensure it keeps it's moisture while it is waiting to be laid out.

It's important to note that sod delivery is typically available only in certain areas, and you may need to place your order well in advance to ensure that you receive the sod when you need it. In addition, sod is generally more expensive than grass seed, but it can provide an instant lawn and typically requires less maintenance than grass seed.
