The Best Sod and Grass Seed for Anaheim, California

Hello, today Sod and Seed, Inc. reaches out to our readers in Southern California about the best grass for Anaheim! Although we will be sharing about the best grass for Anaheim today and the unique Southern California climate, these sod and grass seed types may apply to surrounding cities as well, such as Santa Ana, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Corona, Pomona, Long Beach, and Los Angeles.

Anaheim, the 10th largest city in California, is home to famous attractions such as Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, Knott's Berry Farm and Knott's Soak City. Guess what the first thing you see is when entering Disneyland Park? Yes, it's a big, beautiful sod lawn! Anaheim is also known for its warm weather and hot days, perfect for beaches like Dana Point and Huntington Beach. Although Southern California is known for its warm and sunny climate, Anaheim is a city that has different conditions for different areas. Anaheim is also diverse in its layout, with some areas being open with larger homes while other areas can be very congested with a cozy city feel. Here is our list for the top sod types for Anaheim based on its various conditions and our sales trends.

Best Grasses for Anaheim

At Sod and Seed, Inc. we often hear people ask, "I live in Anaheim, what is the best grass for me?" While many types of grass or sod work in the environment and conditions of Anaheim, we usually find the list narrows down to these top 6 grass blends. Here are the top 6 selling sod types in the Anaheim Area.

1. Special Shade Blend Sod

Special Shade Blend sod adapts to some of the largest obstructions and issues we have in Anaheim due to hills, tall homes, narrow backyards and trees planted to provide shade in hot climate. Plants need light to live, including your sod lawn. However, our Shade Blend is cultivated to tolerate more shade than other grass types. It will provide for you an area that is durable, drought tolerant and green all year. This sod can handle foot traffic and pets while being able to withstand up to 40% shade throughout the day.

2. Bolero Plus Sod

Our Bolero Plus, short for Bolero Plus Dwarf Fescue with Bluegrass, will work for Anaheim residents that do not want to mow every week or even every other week. A low maintenance lawn is something our Bolero Plus can provide. For areas that will get traffic but not much heavy action, we recommend this slower-growing, finer-bladed Bolero Plus mix. Bolero Plus has been the official grass of many Anaheim public areas. It was also used in front of the famous "Full House" home in San Francisco for the popular TV show, "Fuller Family."

3. Kurapia Ground Cover

Kurapia grass ground cover has become very popular in the Anaheim Area. Our deliveries for Kurapia ground cover steadily increase and most orders are heading to Anaheim. With Kurapia ground cover, you will never mow again, water once a week, edge a couple of times a year, and that's pretty much it. Kurapia ground cover is sterile, yet blooms thousands of flowers twice a year, making for a beautiful ground cover and also a great pollinator. Our Kurapia ground cover is new to the sod industry and has revolutionized the definition of lawns, not failing to sell out each year.

Our Delta Tall 9010 Hybrid Fescue is our most drought tolerant and durable sod for Anaheim. The Delta Tall Fescue Mix has also been one of our top sellers for many years consecutively across the rest of California. This tall fescue loves the heat and can take full sun all day as well as heavy foot traffic. The Hybrid Tall Fescue has a deep rooting system and thicker stocks which provide a perfect recreational area for children and dogs. 5. Bluegrass Ryegrass Sod

Our Delta Kentucky Bluegrass Rye Grass sod works great for areas in Anaheim with small children and for people who want a soft-textured, slow-growing sod lawn. Our Bluegrass Ryegrass mixtures vary, but our two most popular Blue Rye mixes are our 50-50 and 80-20 mixes. Our 50-50 mixture, as its name indicates, is 50% Kentucky Bluegrass and 50% Perennial Ryegrass, and our 80-20 selection is a mixture of 80% Perennial Rye Grass and 20% Kentucky Bluegrass. Among most grasses, bluegrass and rye grass have the best visual appeal and are the softest grasses. Both the blue and rye are cool season grasses. They will likely need water every other day regardless or weather, and may need more on days with higher temperatures.

Overseeding your Latitude 36 sod lawn is also a solution to ensure a green lawn year-round. Our Latitude 36 offers the highest possible heat tolerance with a 10/10 rating, and above average drought tolerance for those dry, hot, Anaheim summer days. • What is the best sod here in Anaheim? I wanted something that requires little to no maintenance while suitable for my children. I want to change my lawn this month, but I’m unsure what type of grass I should use instead.

  • The Delta Tall 9010 of Sod and Seed look like they’re holding up well, and they’ve been growing in for about a month now in my place in Anaheim. The neighborhood kids all come over and ask to play with the “green grass” in my front yard, haha. I’d say it’s very soft, more so than any of the other grasses I’ve tried. I love it.

  • We’ve had a lot of compliments on the turf, and I wanted to share the good news. The folks at Sod and Seed are excellent to deal within. They are friendly and helpful, and they deliver when they say they will. The sod is very high quality, and the service is hard to beat. I appreciate all your help in fixing the issue. We love how it looks in our yard here in Anaheim.

  • This blog is excellent news for me since I’m living in Anaheim. I have been trying to find a lawn that will green up in the winter and stay green in the summer. My property has some shade due to a tree, but I still want it to be green year-round. Please, help me with this problem, Sod and Seed.

  • I agree with your sod recommendation. Kurapia is at the top of my list.
