The Best Sod for Fontana, CA

Fontana is the 21st largest city in California, located in San Bernardino County and part of the Inland Empire region of Southern California. Fontana is located approximately 50 miles east of Los Angeles.

Fontana has some of the highest and driest winds in California. Temperatures well over 100 degrees in the summer are a constant reminder of the inland location and heat. Grass here should have a little extra care due to the extreme summer heat and might need updated watering. Water Banking may be another great alternative in areas like Fontana.

Kurapia Ground Cover

Kurapia ground cover is one of the best selling lawn covers in Fontana. Much like a hybrid bermuda grass such as the TIFTUF, Latitude 36 or Celebration Bermuda, Kurapia ground cover has superb heat and drought tolerance. The biggest difference between Kurapia ground cover and other lawn covers is that Kurapia NEVER needs to be mowed. If you're looking for a lawn that will stand up to Fontana heat and take care of itself, Kurapia ground cover may be the best choice for you.

Fescue Sod

Fescue sod is a classic choice for the Fontana area. Fescue sod can come in many different types, including tall fescue sod, dwarf tall fescue sod and dwarf fescue sod. Most commonly, fescue sod is mixed with Kentucky Bluegrass, creating a grass with twice as many benefits. Our fescue sod selection below is only the beginning, but outlines the most popular choices in Fontana.

Hybrid Bermuda Grass Sod

It's hard to go wrong with hybrid bermuda grass options in Fontana. Our best selling option is the TUFTUF hybrid bermudagrass, but other hybrid bermudas are recommended as well. The TIFTUF bermuda grass offers the benefit of drought tolerance and 50% water savings due to its dormancy period in cooler temperatures.

  • @Stan Howe: Kurapia sod is drought tolerant. Watering is based on many factors, such as water pressure, type of irrigation system, climate, immediate conditions, and other things we may not know. So, we can provide general guidelines, and once you place your order, we can provide more specific watering tips. However, contacting an irrigation specialist would be best. What we can say is that for the first 2-3 weeks for grass (1.5-2 months for Kurapia), be sure to keep the lawn moist. It should have the texture of a wet sponge, and when you press your fingers or feet on it, it should make a “squishy” sound. Ensure all watering is between 5 am – 2 p.m.; avoid nighttime watering.
