Shade Blend grass seed is specially cultivated for increased tolerance in shady areas. It is a durable mixture of Fescues that will keep your lawn looking full, thick, and ready for play. Our Shade blend seed is a great selection for pets and children active in shady areas. The composition of our Shade Blend is 90% Tall Fescue and 10% Fine Fescues. Its mixture of Fine Fescues is what gives our Shade Blend increased shade tolerance. Its Tall Fescue characteristics help it maintain its deep rooting system, drought tolerance, improved wear and tear recovery, and disease resistance.

Our Shade Blend grass seed is the same high-quality, farm-grade seed used to grow our Shade Blend sod at our farm. We are boasting the highest germination rates for Tall Fescue and Fine Fescues currently available in California. Shade blend grass seed helps any fescue lawn with sun and shade areas where the fescue previously might have had issues.

Drought Tolerant Grass For Shade

The rate at which you spread our shade blend grass seed is one pound per 100 square feet or by the numbers provided below. Always check the grass seed type before spreading.

10 LBS of our Shade Blend grass seed covers 1,000 Square Feet

25 LBS of our Shade Blend grass seed covers 2,500 Square Feet

We always recommend using the seeding volume recommendations when using grass seed. You can spread the seed with multiple applications saving a couple of pounds for overseeding. Always use a spreader to ensure proper coverage.

Check each grass seed mixture for coverage since each type of grass has varying amounts of grass seed recommended per square foot. Remember to be patient as different types of seeds germinate at different rates, sometimes with weeks in the difference germination. Germination rates vary by seed type and conditions, so plan on giving your seed a couple of months to germinate.

**Starter Fertilizer is always recommended when sodding/(re)seeding a lawn. You can purchase our Sod and Seed Starter Fertilizer here >
