Bull's Eye Bermudagrass Sod Starter Fertilizer

Starter Fertilizer is always recommended when installing a new sod lawn. CLICK HERE to view our Starter Fertilizer. If you are planning for a sod delivery and/or sod installation, be sure to plan for Starter Fertilizer. Starter Fertilizer is designed to provide your new sod lawn with the balanced ratio of nutrients a new sod lawn needs, which is different from a sod grass lawn that is already established. You can order Starter Fertilizer with your sod delivery and sod installation. The starter fertilizer will be shipped directly with your sod delivery. Starter Fertilizer should be applied on the prepped area prior to the sod installation. Additionally, two applications of starter fertilizer are recommended for sod installations, one application prior to sod installation and a second application about 2 months after the sod installation.

Bull's Eye Bermudagrass Sod Initial Watering Directions

Your new Bull's Eye Bermudagrass sod lawn should be kept consistently moist the first 2-3 weeks during the rooting and establishment period. Keeping the sod grass moist after sod installation facilitates a healthy rooting and establishment period. Watering your new Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod lawn should occur between 5 am - 2 pm and nighttime watering should be avoided. For a new Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod lawn, watering should generally occur at a higher frequency with shorter duration. After the rooting and establishment period, watering can incrementally be cut back. Once the lawn is established, watering recommendations vary based on many factors such as type of irrigation system, water pressure, location and the immediate environment the sod lawn will be in.

Bull's Eye Bermudagrass Sod Mowing

The Bull's Eye Bermuda grass recommended mowing height is 1/2" to 2". The first mowing should be done at the highest setting the first time you mow your lawn. After that, you can incrementally work your way down to your preferred mowing height. Mowing should be done on a sod lawn that has been allowed to dry overnight, mowing should never be done on a wet, recently installed sod grass lawn. After the sod grass lawn has established, mowing will generally be required every 5-7 days. WARNING: Never mow more than 1/3 of the total height at once.

Bull's Eye Bermudagrass Sod Growth Rate, Type and Speed

The Bull's Eye bermudagrass sod has an excellent rooting system. A better rooting system provides a lawn with excellent growth patterns and fast recovery from damage. For sports fields, a fast recovering sod grass is ideal and helpful. To complement this, the Bull's Eye bermudagrass sod has a tightly packed growth pattern that makes for a lawn with a soft, cushion-like feel. The soft, cushion like feel of the Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod is great for sports applications as well because of the improved stability it provides for athletes. Once established, the Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod will grow at a rate that requires mowing approximately every 5-7 days.

Bull's Eye Bermudagrass Sod Wintering and Dormancy

The Bull's Eye Bermuda grass has a winter dormancy period, meaning it will brown up as temperatures cool down in the fall and green back up as temperatures rise in the spring. In cold winter climates, the Bull's Eye Bermuda grass may require fall overseeding based on aesthetic preferences. The Bull's Eye Bermuda grass is best for warm temperatures and hot climates.

Monocot Warm-Season Grass

The Bull's Eye Bermuda grass is a warm-season grass. Warm-season grasses like the Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod thrive best in hot climates with warmer temperatures. If the Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod is planted in a cooler-season region, it will go through a winter dormancy period. A winter dormancy period means that as the temperatures begin to drop and cool down in the fall, the Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod will begin to brown up. New bermudagrass sod lawn owners think the sod is dying, but most of the time it is simply going "to sleep." As temperatures begin to rise in the spring, the Bulls Eye Bermudagrass sod will begin to green up again. One option for lawn owners who want a green lawn year round is to overseed the Bulls Eye bermudagrass sod so it stays green year-round. The Bull's Eye is a monocot and is part of the Poaceae family.
