Fresno Climate

Fresno has typical valley weather, with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. In the summer, temperatures in Fresno are regularly well into the 90s Fahrenheit (32-37°C) or higher, with low humidity and plenty of sunshine. The heat can be particularly intense during the daytime, but evenings and nights can be relatively cool. Because Fresno is located in a valley, there is frequently a breeze flowing through, even on the hottest day. In the winter, temperatures in Fresno typically range from the mid-30s to mid-50s Fahrenheit (1-12°C), with occasional periods of rain and regular periods of heavy fog. Snow is rare in Fresno, but it can occur at higher elevations in the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains.

Kurapia Ground Cover

Kurapia is a low-water use and low-maintenance ground cover plant that is known for its drought tolerance, ability to be left unmowed, and adaptability to thrive in hot, arid environments. Given Fresno's hot, dry climate and the need to conserve water, Kurapia ground cover is an excellent option for a sod lawn. Kurapia is also low-maintenance, as it never needs to be mowed. Since Kurapia ground cover requires less watering and mowing than traditional lawns, it helps reduce water usage and save time and money on lawn care.

Tall Fescue Sod Grass

Tall Fescue sod grass is recommended for Fresno because it will stand up better to heat, drought, and cold than other fescues. Our two most popular Hybrid Tall Fescues with Kentucky Bluegrass are the West Coaster Tall Fescue and our Delts Tall 9010. If you are looking for a lawn that loves the Fresno sun and heat, will save water, and serve as a safe space for play, sports, or relaxation, then our West Coaster Tall Fescue Sod and Delta Tall 9010 Sod are the right choice for you!

Bermuda Grass

Fresno is an ideal host for any Bermuda grass in our selection for several reasons. Firstly, Fresno has the sun and heat that Bermuda grass loves, so rest assured a well-tended Bermuda grass lawn will do just fine during Fresno's hot summers. Secondly, Fresno's efforts to conserve water will be supported by a bermudagrass sod lawn because bermuda grass goes dormant in the winter, cutting your water usage in half immediately. If you'd like a green lawn year-round, overseed your bermuda grass sod lawn with rye grass seed! Below are our three most popular bermuda grass options for Fresno, our TIFTUF hybrid bermuda grass, Celebration hybrid bermuda grass and the Latitude 36 hybrid bermuda grass.
