Kurapia Ground Cover

Kurapia ground cover is a new and specially cultivated lawn cover. Kurapia ground cover is derived from Lippia, or Phyla Nodiflora types. It is cultivated to provide an array of benefits that have revolutionized the lawn industry. Kurapia is highly drought tolerant, heat tolerant, disease-resistant, and extremely low maintenance among living ground covers (CLICK HERE to watch Sod and Seed, Inc.'s video on Kurapia stress testing). Kurapia ground cover is also highly self-healing and blooms miniature white flowers twice annually between May and October. Below is information about our Kurapia ground cover that Sod and Seed, Inc. has compiled over the last 5 years by directly working with Kurapia through installations, long-term lawn care, and through training and collaborative work with the Horticulture Department at Diablo Valley College.

Maintenance for Kurapia Ground Cover

Watering Kurpia Ground Cover

Kurapia ground cover is one of the most drought and heat tolerant live ground covers in the lawn industry. A Kurapia lawn can save up to 60% on watering needs, saving both time and money spent on watering your lawn. With a deep rooting system, Kurapia ground cover is able to retain more water for dryer and warmer days. Kurapia can be watered as little as once per week, depending on the immediate conditions the lawn is in. Note that during the first few weeks, Kurapia will need to be watered more often while its roots are being established.

Mowing Kurapia Ground Cover

Kurapia ground cover never has to be mowed. Some lawn owners choose to mow their Kurapia lawn for personal aesthetic preferences or to avoid flowering between May and October. However, Kurapia is composed of leaves and stolons, growing laterally. The upward growth of Kurapia varies based on the conditions it is in, but generally has a low-growing pattern that resembles traditional sod.
