Kurapia Ground Cover

Is Kurapia a Good Ground Cover?

Kurapia is a new, highly adaptable alternative ground cover. Kurapia ground cover is popular for many reasons, and here are the top reasons for the success of Kurapia sod ground cover in recent years.

Benefits of Kurapia Ground Cover

Most commonly, Kurapia ground cover is sought after because it takes little upkeep once it has established its deep rooting system helping Kurapia ground cover use less water than California's cool-season turf grasses. The strong structure and rooting system Kurapia ground cover has makes Kurapia excellent for a variety of applications. More specifically, Kurapia sod ground cover offers a dense cover that help decrease soil erosion. For instance, highway and freeway shoulders, rooftops, public utility areas, business buildings, and solar farm landscapes all benefit from Kurapia ground cover for soil erosion control. The same structure that helps Kurapia ground cover control soil erosion, helps Kurapia ground cover fight of disease such as weeds. One of Kurapia ground covers most notable traits is that it is an extremely low maintenance lawn. Kurapia ground cover grows laterally and close to the ground, rarely reaching a height of more than 3′′. For this reason, Kurapia does not need to be mowed and has revolutionized the lawn care expectations in the lawn industry. The cherry on top? Although Kurapia ground cover is sterile, meaning it cannot reproduce by seed, it produces beautiful, miniature white flowers that decorate your lawn twice per year between the months of May and October. Mowing is optional during the flowering period as some Kurapia ground cover owners mow to avoid flowering and in turn avoid potential attraction of bees.

Delta Hybrid Tall Fescue with Kentucky Bluegrass Sod

Is Fescue a Good Grass for Sod Lawns?

Tall Fescue, and Hybrid Tall Fescue turf types, have a long-standing popularity and preference in the lawn industry for many reasons. The deep rooting system the Delta Tall 9010 Hybrid has allows for drought tolerance, heat tolerance and excellent wear and tear resistance, making it a great options for areas that will have high foot traffic. Our Delta Tall 9010 is a Hybrid Mix of 90% Tall Fescue and 10% Kentucky Bluegrass and similar to other Hybrid Fescues, also offers disease resistance and some shade tolerance. All of these traits make the Delta 9010 Hybrid Tall Fescue with Bluegrass an excellent grass type for sod lawns.

Benefits of a Fescue Grass Sod Lawn

When compared to Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescue requires less water once established because it grows a deep root system that can tap into deeper water sources, making it more heat and drought tolerant. The deep rooting system of our Hybrid Tall Fescue with Bluegrass also gives it excellent wear and tear recovery and foot traffic tolerance. Water requirements for lawns are influenced by a variety of factors. For example, when the weather is hot, dry, and windy, a hybrid fescue lawn may demand up to 2 inches of water per week, but when the weather is cold or cloudy, it may require considerably less.

When we recommend our 9010 Hybrid Tall Fescue with Bluegrass Sod to families with active children or for sports activities, this picture below is what we envision - a lush, rich, healthy, strong lawn ready for some action!

Hybrid Tall Fescue with Bluegrass Watering

For the first two to three weeks, newly planted Fescue should be watered 2-4 times a day, depending on the temperature, to avoid drying out its roots and blades. Watering is recommended at 5 am, 12 pm and 2 pm, avoiding watering at night. Monitor watering to ensure the lawn is consistently moist. We encourage more frequent and shorter watering periods instead of less but longer watering periods for longer during the establishment period.

Hybrid Tall Fescue with Bluegrass Mowing

Hybrid Fescue lawns can be mowed as low as 1 1/2 inches to 3 inches. Never mow more than 1/3 of the grass at once to avoid lawn damage. Mowing below the recommended height can reduce drought and heat tolerance, as well as increase the prevalence of insects, diseases, and weeds. When the grass is actively growing in the spring, mow every 3-4 days, but only once every 7-10 days when growth is hindered by heat, drought, or cold.

Is Kurapia Ground Cover Better Than Tall Fescue Grass for Lawns?

The answer to this question depends on what type of lawn you are seeking. If you are a lawn owner tired of mowing, Kurapia will probably be your preferred choice. If you cannot say goodbye to the classic aesthetic of traditional grass and don't mind mowing, then our Delta Tall Fescue Hybrid will be your choice. • I love my Delta Tall 9010! It has a very thick and deep root system which helps to protect against drought and high temperatures. It stays green and lush in the summer, even with the lack of water. The tall grass is attractive because it catches all the dust and dirt that would typically fly up into my home and settle on my floors, furniture, carpets, etc.

  • I just started using Kurapia, and it is incredible! It’s been scorched and hot here in the Bay Area, and I have been watering twice a week. My lawn looks great, and it is dark green and soft. Terrific product. I had no trouble with it, and I would rebuy it in the future.

  • We have never used a lawn service for any of our properties. We always do it ourselves. After reading the reviews on Kurapia, I decided to give it a try. It has been easy to work with, and I’ve had no problems. I’ve had other lawn products from other companies, but this one is the best. Sod and Seed are very accommodating and have been quick to respond to any questions I’ve had since then.
